Presenting Concern:
Malachi lives at an elite boarding facility where he is cared for diligently. The horses stay in 12 hours per day. The barn owner noticed damage to his stall front. This quickly progressed to him completely tearing down the front stall wall. As time went on, the barn staff realized that he was actually sleep deprived and would collapse. Obviously, something had to be done and done quickly before he hurt himself or one of the stall members.
Highlights of Clinical Findings:
- previously diagnosed with a “weak R stifle”
- back soreness / gluteal soreness
- stood camped under – body was stuck in flexion
- could lift front limbs but could not extend them
- could not abduct the RH limb from the body
- lame on LH on lunge line with very little motion in the R side of the pelvis

Diagnostics:
A bute trial was done and there was no change to his collapsing. He continued to consistently collapse in his stall. EPM was ruled out. A metabolic panel was done with a full comprehensive profile before pursuing further treatments. Lumbar and pelvic injections were done followed by shockwave of his thoracic sling. Malachi had chiropractic care several times following his treatment.
His collapsing began to lessen. Eventually, his hocks and stifles were injected. Malachi has not collapsed since the end of 2023!!
